La Hacienda, the fine-dining phoenix mexican food restaurant at the Fairmont Scottsdale, closed almost two years ago. The cause of death: a poor economy.
But now it's coming back to life, and shooting for a January 2010 opening.
Resort spokeswoman Valerie Lee cites two factors behind the resurrection.
First, the economy is improving enough for the resort to add to its restaurant stable of Bourbon Steak, a steakhouse, and The Grill at TPC, which recently morphed into a seafood restaurant.
Second, guests have been telling management that they wanted an Arizona/Southwest/Mexican dining experience. And these guests, management realized, were leaving the property with their disposable dollars to find it.
According to Lee, the new La Hacienda will be "more approachable" than the old one. Translation: Less refined fare, and lower prices. Diners can count on dishes like fish tacos and fajitas.
The consulting chef is Mexico City-born Richard Sandoval, who first came to national attention with Maya in New York in 1997. Now he has restaurants in several states, as well as Dubai and Acapulco.
